Specialty Class D dry powder agents for combustible metal fires — a hazard category where standard extinguishers are not only ineffective but can actively worsen the situation (water reacts violently with sodium and potassium; CO2 can accelerate magnesium fires). Four formulations, each targeting specific metal types:


  • MET-L-X Dry Powder (sodium chloride): For most Class D fires — sodium, potassium, sodium-potassium alloys, and magnesium. Cakes over burning metal and forms a heat-dissipating crust that excludes air. 50 lb pails.
  • MET-L-KYL Dry Chemical: Specifically designed for metal alkyls — pyrophoric liquids such as triethylaluminum that ignite spontaneously on contact with air. Found in petrochemical and specialty chemical production. 50 lb pails.
  • LITH-X Dry Powder (graphite-based): Formulated for lithium Class D fires. Also effective on high melting-point metals: zirconium, titanium, sodium potassium. 45 lb pails.
  • Purple-K Dry Chemical: Also available for Class B/C applications (see Dry Chemical Agents).
